Fredericton neighbourhoods for renters

A short guide to how the city is laid out, and what each area is like if you are looking for a place to rent.

How the city is laid out

The Saint John (Wolastoq) River runs through Fredericton and divides it into the Northside and the Southside. Downtown, College Hill and Uptown are all on the south bank. The Westmorland Street and Princess Margaret bridges carry traffic across the river, and the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge is for people on foot.

Where you live shapes your day: how you get to work or class, what you can walk to, and what winter feels like when you have to shovel or park. Each guide below describes the area in general terms and lists what to check when you view a rental there. None of them describes a particular listing, so always confirm the details of the home you are looking at.

Also worth factoring in are green space such as Odell Park, and the NBCC Fredericton campus if you are studying there. For a broader overview of the process, read our guide to renting in Fredericton.
